MISSION STATEMENT

Scientific discovery and clinical advances into disorders of the brain have been expanding in an unprecedented fashion. In recognition of these advancements Congress enacted a joint House-Senate Resolution that declared the 1990s as the Decade of the Brain. This action marked the first time that Congress identified a decade to commemorate a significant undertaking. This was followed by the issuance of a Decade Proclamation by President Bush. President Clinton also recognized the importance of these advances in a statement last year.

The brain is a wondrous organ. It is responsible for the advancement of man from a primitive being to one whose accomplishments are unlimited. When it fails, the brain and central nervous system produces some of the most devastating suffering and handicapping conditions imaginable.

This WEB site is devoted to helping people and their caregivers obtain information about the advances both being studied in the laboratory and those that are available now to ameliorate these conditions. We hope to provide our visitors with 'cutting edge" developments by providing information from leading clinicians and researchers and inviting therapeutic manufacturers to share their knowledge.

TARGET AUDIENCES

This site will serve as a network of health care organizations which provide quality health care information, services and products. Our goal is to provide a mechanism for organizations who are interested in the cure and treatment of neurological and mental disorders, which we refer to as brain disorders, to deliver the latest information to those interested. Experts have long recognized that there is a considerable amount of overlap in the understanding and treatment of these disorders.

Included will be voluntary health agencies, managed care organizations, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, clinical providers, employers and insurers.

FOCUS ON INTERACTION

Our future goal is to able to interact using this site and learn from each other. We expect to provide links to key information portals who already have WEB sites and will encourage and assist those who would like, to develop one.
